CANDIDATE SOLICITATION NOTICE[1]
BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION

All eligible members of the Association are invited and encouraged to become candidates for election to the Board.[2]

In order to be eligible to become a candidate, a person must be a Member of the Association for at least three years prior to election and must be a Member in Good Standing for at least one year prior to election, as of the date he or she submits his or her written notice of desire to be a candidate. In order to be eligible for election to the Board, a person must be a Member of the Association for at least three years prior to election and must be a Member in Good Standing for at least one year prior to election, as of the date scheduled for close of the balloting period.

In order to become a candidate, you must notify the Association in writing by mail or hand delivery to the following address:

Alternatively, your written notification may be faxed to 209 852-2771 or emailed to the Association at either info@ldpoa.com or ldpoa@throckwisp.com .

Your written notification of your desire to be a candidate and any Director Election Statements (described below) must be received by the Association no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2009. Each eligible member whose written notification is received in a timely manner by the Association shall automatically be a candidate. There shall be no nominations from the floor at the annual membership meeting.

Candidates and Members advocating a point of view may, but are not required to, submit (to the address/fax number listed above) a Director Election Statement that is reasonably related to the election. Directors Election Statements may not exceed one side of a single 8 ½ x 11 inch page. Black and white copies of all Director Election Statements that are received before 5:00 p.m. on August 30, 2009 will be reproduced as submitted and will be included with the ballot package which will be mailed to all members. By submitting a Director Election Statement, you accept full responsibility for its content and agree to indemnify the Association and its agents and representatives for any and all damage arising from and related to any such content.

It is each member's responsibility to confirm that his or her written notification of desire to be a candidate and Director Election Statement were received by the Association.

We look forward to receiving your notification of desire to be a candidate. Our Association works only because of owners like you who are willing to volunteer their time and skills on behalf of the entire community.

[1]This notice constitutes the "Candidate Solicitation Notice" described in Section 1A of the Association's Election Rules.
[2]PLEASE NOTE: There will be at least three seats to be filled in the upcoming election of Directors, as three Directors' terms expire naturally this year. However, there might be more than three seats to be filled because on July 18, 2009, the Association received a valid petition from Members requesting membership votes to recall each of the current Directors. The Association will be conducting the recall votes in the very near future. Look for your recall ballot in the mail sometime after August 1, 2009. If the recall vote is successful as to one or more of the current Directors, then new directors will need to be elected to fill those additional vacant seats. The election to fill any such additional vacant seats will be combined with the election of Directors to fill the seats of the three Directors whose terms are expiring this year.

Yes, Comments Are Allowed

There is apparently some misunderstanding concerning the LDPOA website access policy referenced in a previous Blog entry.

The comments feature is alive and active, (yes, even for negative or misleading ones), moderation is for improper or abusive language or content and should it be necessary it will be noted on site. So far no message sent in has been refused. Anyone wishing to comment on an item needs only to click on the 'Comments' link.

As to the statement made in a recent comment that the Discoverer newspaper "published a link to a blog" and it's implication of endorsement; The only mention was a correction printed in the newspaper specifically stating that a blog which had been erroneously referred to in an accompanying letter to the editor several times as being an assoc. site was definitely not an LDPOA website and was not to be confused with the official LDPOA website. This was the only reference to any outside site and was only made as a correction to the inaccurate statement in the accompanying letter. There would have been no mention of the blog had the correction not been necessary. While the Assoc. website is printed in each paper and often highlighted.

The Blog in question has never been linked to the LDPOA website and had never been mentioned here by the assoc., the only reference to it at all has been by those who apparently have differing views. Since a decision was made due to possible conflicts not to allow that site any links on the LDPOA website how would it be fair or impartial to allow those of opposing viewpoints to put up direct link buttons on the title page that could be (and were) misinterpreted as officially part of or endorsed by LDPOA website? Therefore that one feature only was discontinued.

So misleading comments aside, the members are welcome to post their comments here, good, bad, happy or unhappy and as demonstrated by another comment we do not prevent commenters from posting in their comments the address to their own blogs or sites should readers wish to access more of that individuals viewpoint. This is consistent with free speech and expression without regard to points of view or axes to grind. The LDPOA website is intended as an information source for the members and visitors and while comments are indeed welcome it is not intended as a forum for 'Blog Wars' between disagreeing individuals.

Additional vendors offer salsas, olives, olive oils, nuts, dried fruits, snacks and much more. (This is not yet a certified farmers Market.)

In addition you can enjoy browsing the Bazaar area where you can discover almost any kind of non-food goods for sale, crafts, yard sale, art, new goods & gently used.

La Grange Scouts Work Hard to Serve Community

This year will be the 6th annual Memorial Day Service project for La Grange Cub Pack & Boy Scout Troop 17 and their families. Many families in the La Grange community have dedicated their time and service in this event each year. This Memorial Day service project will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009.
On May 5, 1868, three years after the end of the Civil War, the head of an organization of Union veterans - the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) – established Decoration Day as a time for our nation to honor those who died in war by decorating their graves with flowers. Decoration Day was to be observed on the 30th of May. Today, some Northern and Southern States both claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. In April 1866 a group of women in Columbus, Mississippi visited a cemetery to decorate the graves of Confederate soldiers who had fallen in the battle at Shiloh. Nearby were the graves of Union soldiers, neglected because they were the enemy. The sight of the bare graves troubled the women, so they placed flowers on those graves as well. We now recognize Decoration Day as Memorial Day.

Throughout all generations of time people have held commemorative services to honor those who have fallen in war. 'The Athenian leader Pericles offered a tribute to the fallen heroes of the Peloponnesian War over 24 centuries ago that could be applied today to the 1.1 million Americans who have died in the nation’s wars: “Not only are they commemorated by columns and inscriptions, but there dwells also an unwritten memorial of them, graven not on stone but in the hearts of men.” (US Dept of Veteran Affairs, Memorial Day Background. http://www1.va.gov/opa/speceven/memday/history.asp#hist)'

Many people have forgotten to honor the sacrifices of America's fallen heroes. Rather than a day of mourning as Decoration Day once was, Memorial day has now become a long weekend holiday with a day off work. To preserve that sacred memory and pay tribute to our fallen heroes, to whom we owe so very much, the U.S. Congress passed in December of 2000 “the National Moment of Remembrance Act.” The purpose is to “encourage the people of the United States to give something back to their country, which provides them so much freedom and opportunity” by encouraging and coordinating commemorations in the United States for Memorial Day and the National Moment of Remembrance.
The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. Local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to our nation.”

La Grange Boy Scouts and their families will meet as always at 9:00Am in front of the Catholic Church on Floto Street. Saturday, May 23. We welcome all community members, and scout supporters to join us for the event.
Scouts cleanup both of the local La Grange cemetery's and honor Veterans each year by placing new American Flags at their graves.
Following this, scouts will gather in the shade near the Old La Grange School House for a short presentation on Memorial Day with patriotic songs while they enjoy the troop's traditional treat of Otter pops for refreshment.
In addition to this community service, the La Grange Unit also holds a special Flag Retirement ceremony. Boy Scouts of America, along with the Military, and select Military Service Organizations are among the few organizations permitted to properly retire U.S. Flags. This is a very special ceremony to witness and a great service the boy scouts provide to our community. Those organizations with flags in need of retirement may contact Troop 17 for this service.

The Lake Don Pedro Owners' Assoc. website http://www.ldpoa.com/ is funded by the association for the purposes of providing access to factual information, forms and announcements about the association and relevant information concerning the surrounding area and communities.

Originally, free placement of links to unofficial and unmonitored third party outside web pages and sites were allowed. Due to legal issues regarding liability for content when the association has no way to ensure accuracy, mistaken impressions of LDPOA endorsement of statements by third parties and misinformation resulting from inaccurate and misleading information from linked third party sites, the following is now policy.

The http://www.ldpoa.com/ website is for official association information. No business or individual shall have the capability to upload information or links to other outside web pages or sites onto the LDPOA website without the approval of the Board of Directors.

LDPOA BOARD of DIRECTORS OPENINGS

Commencing with this announcement:
The Lake Don Pedro Owners’ Association Board of Directors will be accepting applications from interested members to fill three (3) vacant positions on the Board.

Bylaws of the association require that in order to be eligible for a Board position you must be a member for at least three (3) years and a Member in Good Standing for at least one year prior to election or appointment.

The remaining terms on the Board vacancies are:
One (1) - 20 month term
Two (2) – 8 month terms

Applicants should indicate a preference for the term they would like to serve on their submission.
Deadline for submissions is Monday, February 9th, 2009 at 5:00pm.
